 About

The Washington Junior High School Band program serves 150, 7th and 8th grade students. Our main focus is developing young students into caring, hardworking adults with a servant's attitude through the vehicle of music education in band.

Emphasis in each band class is on the total musical development of the individual and the ensemble through an instructional program that focuses on tonal, technical, rhythmic, sight-reading, and ear-training skills.

Band students meet during the school day and some outside of school for sectionals, rehearsals, and private lessons - all vital components of a successful band curriculum. Individual musical achievement and development are both cornerstones upon which the success of the Washington JH Band Program is built. Band students at WJHS prepare for and audition for the Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association, Region VI Honor Band (optional for 7th grade students), ASBOA North Honor Orchestra (optional), ASBOA Region VI Honor Jazz Band (optional) as well as have the opportunity to participate in the ASBOA Region VI Solo and Ensemble Festival.

The 8th grade band consistently earns excellent and superior ratings at the ASBOA Region VI Concert Band and Sight Reading Assessment as well as at other music festivals. The 8th grade band earned the ASBOA Sweepstakes award in 2015 and 2016. The 8th grade band has also earned high remarks from clinicians at the Music for All Music Festival held in Russellville, Arkansas. Additionally, the 8th grade band has earned superior ratings at the Worlds of Fun Festival of Music in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017. As well as earned 1st place in our division in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Besides making great music, the band students have a great time hanging out with one another at Worlds of Fun, FastLanes Entertainment, GlowGolf, as well as Band Parties on campus.

The WJHS Band prepares students to be organized and work on detail through physical and mental discipline. Only the highest form of teamwork can make great bands. We are lucky to have terrific support from Bentonville Schools, administration, parents, and community.
