Upcoming Events

Greetings Wildcat Band Families,

Last week was such an outstanding week of music making! I am incredibly proud of every student for how they handled themselves and how they performed. The concerts by all bands were absolutly exceptional!!!

Then, we rounded off the week with an astonishing day of all-region honor band auditions. Once again, the students represented WJHS, Bentonville Schools and the Bentonville Band Program well! No behavior issues. They took care to take care of the facilities and support one another throughout the day. It made my heart happy to see!! I want to thank Jim and Rosie Cheek for chaperoning with us and helping take care of the students while I was running the tally room. It was a long day, but a great one!!!

I am beyond proud of every single student who auditioned yesterday! Regardless of preparation on the music, the experience of an audition process is its own mountain to climb. Every time students complete an audition they become more confident and learn to handle the stress of an audition (or later in life an interview) with poise and confidence. Regardless if students earned a spot in the highly competitve honor bands, I am incredible proud of all of them!!

We had 25 students earn a spot in the all-region honor bands. This is the most of any school other than BHS 9th grade! Cool fact, 53% of the 9th graders from BHS were Wildcat band members! :)

Students who earned a place in the all-region honor bands will participate in a clinic and concert January 26th-27th at BHS. Information regarding the clinic can be found here.

*Alternates will attend the clinic/concert if they are called up to do so if someone in their section is unable to attend.

*Everyone is invited to attend the performance on Saturday, January 27th.

Tuba families need to make plans now on how to get their student's instrument home over the winter break. 7th Grade tubas can be picked up as early as Monday, December 18th at 10:00am and as late as 4:30pm on Wednesday, December 20th.

All assignments and 8th grade pass offs must be completed by Tuesday, December 19th at 4:00pm. No assignments will be taken after this day.

As we prepare for the holidays, families often want to get music related gifts for their band student. To help offer some great ideas I have created a list with links to purchase.

Included in the list are some required mouthpieces and ligatures that are needed by the time students are in high school. For families that need assistance, the high school can provide required mouthpieces. However, it is always best for a student to have their own.

You can sometimes find good deals on mouthpieces at www.reverb.com. Just be sure it is the correct model.

IF you happen to be in the market for a step up instrument for your student, there is a GREAT list of brands and models on the Bentonville Pride website and linked here.

Additionally, we will have a step up event with Palen Music in the BHS Band Room on December 14th 6-8pm. No pressure to purchase. Just come and learn more about the process.

More information and how to make an appointment to check it out can be found on the flyer below.

Here is some GREAT information on why getting a step up instrument can help your band student continue to grow and improve.

I have a knack for finding some GREAT deals on step up instruments, so if you are interested please don't hesitate to reach out. However, patience is the key. :)

PRIVATE LESSONS ARE AWESOME! They are designed to be fun, engaging, supportive and focused on the individual student.

We have an awesome partnership with Arkansas Music Conservatory where your student can take a lesson or two on US to see what private lessons can do for your band student!

Who should take private lessons:

  • Advanced students who need to be pushed and challenged

  • Students who need some 1-on-1 assistance to learn and master concepts covered in class

  • Students who missed substantial class time due to illness

  • Students who just began playing this year

  • Students who want to get better

  • EVERYONE
